A group of young techies have made mark in Cambodia history, launching the first ever new brand computer “Koompi”, according to press release posted on its website.
At side event of BARCAMP ASEAN 2018 held yesterday in Phnom Penh, team of Koompi presented the products and explained its feature of computer speculations to a crowd of tech lovers.
Koompi is viewed as the first Cambodia’s laptop in history that is being developed by Khmer people.
Koompi is built as a low-cost, high-performance laptop that runs open source software, starting with price: $369 USD, said its website, adding that, with main purpose giving students opportunity that they never touch a computer before in their life.
One member of Koompi team, Rithy Thol said on his Facebook post that he thanked and his team was grateful of support. “[…] we at Koompi see the rise of youth who care about its future and are going the be the next generation of engineers, problem solvers, and some going to be great discoverers of this country,” said Rithy.
One Facebook user, Vorn Bung Rong said on post that he feels good to hear about Cambodia’s brand [computer], with name and Khmer OS (operating system).

The delivery of Koompi computers to clients will start on October 27, 2018, according to its social post.
